The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered Has Skins Referencing Destiny And Mortal Kombat

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered has a ton of new unlockable skins, including many that reference other big gaming franchises like Mortal Kombat, Twisted Metal, Jak and Daxter, and Destiny, to name a few.

Although the original version of The Last of Us Part 2 didn't have much for the player to mess around with once they'd finished the game, the Remastered version fixes that with a whole slew of unlockable costumes for Ellie and Abby, in both the new No Return mode and within the main game itself.

Alternate outfits are nothing new for The Last of Us, but what's particularly surprising about the skins on offer in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is how many of them are references to other game series. In Ellie's case, alongside all of her looks from the campaign mode and some new ones like the surname-revealing astronaut suit, she has a bunch of shirts with game logos on.

Some of the games that are referenced in Ellie's skins include PlayStation exclusives like Killzone, Death Stranding, and Wipeout Fusion, but there are also some third-party games in there like Mortal Kombat, Destiny (well, kind of third-party), and Hotline Miami. That last one is a particularly nice surprise considering a character can be seen playing Hotline Miami on a PS Vita.

Ellie isn't the only one to get outfits with a bunch of gaming references on, as Abby's unlockable skins also pay tribute to some other big series. The shirts that Abby can unlock include references to Jak and Daxter, Genji, Syphon Filter, The Getaway, The Mark of Kri, War of the Monsters, Twisted Metal, and, once again, Hotline Miami.

While Ellie's shirt choices are all pretty expected, Abby has some real cult classics in there that you might not have even heard of. This is certainly the first time in a long while that I've heard anything about War of the Monsters and Genji. Previous Naughty Dog games have had lots of references to the studio's own back catalogue (Ellie could even unlock Jak's goggles in the first game), but the referential ante has really been upped here.
