Pokemon Fan Creates New Sinnoh Starters by Swapping Their Types

A creative Pokemon fan has come up with new designs for Torterra, Infernape, and Empoleon by swapping the types of these Gen 4 starters. Pokemon fans often show their love for the franchise by making fan art, and coming up with alternative versions of starters is a popular idea that many artists employ when creating artwork.

Torterra, Infernape, and Empoleon first appeared in the fourth generation of Pokemon games and were featured as the starters in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. These creatures are the final evolutions of Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup, which evolve into Grotle, Monferno, and Prinplup on Level 16, respectively. Then, after reaching Level 36, they can grow into their ultimate forms, which have been pretty popular with fans of the franchise.

Now, a Pokemon fan called primaljort decided to reimagine the Sinnoh starters, changing Empoleon’s type to Plant, Torterra’s type to Fire, and Infernape’s type to Water. Overall, the changes made to the popular Pokemon starters were pretty interesting. For instance, Empoleon became Prinpoke, a Grass/Fighting-type penguin-like creature greatly inspired by a cactus mixed with a boxing fighter. Torterra became Worktle, a fire-breathing tortoise with a digger’s helmet. Infernape became Monceano, a cool-looking blue ape with hair made out of bubbles. Besides the artwork, each Pokemon received stats and a special ability related to their new type.

Type-Swapped Pokemon Starters From Sinnoh Fan Art

This is not the first time that primaljort has come up with amazing Pokemon fan art, though. Last year, the fan artist created impressive regional variants for Muk and Grimer. At the time, the fan designed three different forms for each of the creatures. For instance, one form imagines both creatures as Water-type Pokemon made out of water, while the others give them Poison and Normal types. In both the recent version of the Sinnoh starters and these alternative versions of Muk and Grimer, each Pokemon also received a shiny form, which is a pretty neat feature.

Regional variants are not everything that the prolific Pokemon fan has been able to invent so far. Around the same time that primaljort came up with their Muk and Grimer fan art, they also devised unique Viking-inspired versions of Machop and its evolutions, coming up with muscular creatures that greatly resembled Viking raiders with axes and armor. Hopefully, primaljort and similar fans will continue to come up with amazing fan art, reimagining popular creatures in alternative forms and keeping the community engaged with the franchise.
