Helldivers 2 Just Got Two New Weapons and They’re Great

Another week, another surprise Helldivers 2 update. Whether it’s new enemies, new weapons, or new campaign objectives, the ever-growing (and best) live service co-op shooter just keeps on giving.

The two new weapons, which are available for purchase via Requisition Slips right now, both fill a Support role, meaning they’re called in using a Stratagem Slot. One is basically a laser-powered Recoilless Rifle, and the other is an even bigger machine gun. Let’s break it down:

The LAS-99 is a shoulder-mounted launcher that can:

  • One-shot Chargers
  • Two-shot Hulks and Bile Titans
  • Destroy Bot Fabricators
  • Destroy Cannon Towers
  • Destroy Dropships

Oh, and also, it has infinite ammo, and doesn’t require a backpack slot. As someone who typically relied on EAT-17’s due to their versatile nature, this might be my new favorite weapon. There has to be a catch, right? Well, between shots you’re looking at a 10-second cooldown period, followed by a 3-second stationary charging period before firing. So it’s quite mobile between shots, with no need to manually reload, but stopping to shoot a charger that’s barreling down on you sounds a little daunting.

The MG-101 is a little less flashy, being a 75-round hole-puncher with no third-person sights and an insane amount of recoil. It’s already proving very useful in taking down medium-armored foes, and as someone who sometimes likes to take on riff-raff duty, it’s always nice to have another tool in the toolbox.

These weapons came at the perfect time, since we’ve “allegedly” culled the Terminids and are now being tasked with taking the fight to the Automatons as they launch a new offensive. The LAS-99 looks to be the perfect tool for the job, what with the ability to take down enemy dropships before they can even deploy reinforcements. Just make sure you have an ally rocking the always-appreciated Autocannon.
