An update to an in-game character biography for Destiny 2 seems to imply that major character Lord Shaxx is married. The change may arrive in a matter of days alongside developer Bungie's upcoming content update to Destiny 2, called Into the Light.
In the years since the release of Destiny 2 (and its predecessor, 2014's Destiny), the game has amassed a formidable cast of memorable characters. Lord Shaxx, the master of Destiny 2's PVP mode, the Crucible, is one of the most beloved by players. Shaxx serves not only as the main vendor for the game's PVP-related bounties and gear, but is also the announcer for Crucible play, congratulating players and praising them when they do well in PVP combat. He's so popular that Bungie even partnered with merchandise maker Numskull Designs to produce a Destiny 2 Lord Shaxx statue for fans to purchase.
Destiny 2 Seems to Confirm Lord Shaxx is Married in New Update
It seems that Bungie has updated some of Lord Shaxx's backstory for its latest addition to Destiny 2, Into the Light. Debuting on April 9, 2024, Into the Light will add new content, as well as the return of some classic Destiny 2 weapons. The new content will be centered on players' defense of the Last City, and Shaxx will be one of the City leaders marshaling the operations from a new playable zone. Players watching an Into the Light developer promotional stream noticed that the short biography under Lord Shaxx's name on his vendor screen had been changed to read "Titan. Warlord. Husband."
The implication that Lord Shaxx is married was clear, but what wasn't immediately clear was just who Lord Shaxx's partner might be. Some wondered if there was some truth to a humorous voice message from the recent Season of the Wish update that implied Lord Shaxx and Awoken Queen Mara Sov were an item long in the past. The most plausible answer came from veteran players who remembered Crimson Days, the now-defunct Valentine's celebration event, and its signature weapons, The Vow bow.
The Vow's description features Lord Shaxx himself saying "Til death do us part," the famous portion of a common English-language wedding vow. Its lore entry, when opened, reveals a short story that describes Shaxx promising to offer his hand in marriage to any Guardians who win The Vow bow during Destiny 2 Crimson Days by fighting in the Crucible. In light of The Vow's lore entry, Bungie's latest update to Lord Shaxx's biography suggests that Shaxx may be married to one or more player Guardians, as a good number of Destiny 2 players circa 2019 earned The Vow and have it in their Vaults.

It's fun to see Bungie seemingly responding to an obscure, nearly five-year-old bit of lore to help flesh out players' perception of one of the game's oldest characters. As Destiny 2 Into the Light appears to celebrate the game's history, there's little doubt more such Easter eggs will pop up when the update launches.
