Assassin's Creed Unity, Ubisoft's 2014 entry in the franchise, is firmly back in the gaming spotlight, nearly a decade after its launch. That's because during the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Unity's protagonist, Arno Dorian, made an appearance as part of a larger display of all things French culture.
Arno's appearance was originally a rumor ahead of the ceremony, then a tease during the ceremony by both the official Assassin's Creed and Ubisoft Twitter accounts, before finally coming to life via a parkour specialist dressed as a titular assassin. And for those wondering why Assassin's Creed, and more specifically Unity, was a focal point of the Olympics, then know that Ubisoft is a French-based company, and Unity's story takes place during the French Revolution.
That said, with Arno firmly in the minds of gamers once again, Unity is seeing a serious spike in popularity. And for good reason, it is certainly the most under-appreciated Assassin's Creed title and one that is well worth playing, especially if you're not too keen on the series' new action-RPG stylings.
Unity Is Popping Off, According To SteamDB
As first spotted by the folks at PCGamesN, per the data housed over at SteamDB, Unity is enjoying a nice little boost in its metrics. Previously, the player count was in the low hundreds, which is to be expected for an older title. However, following the ceremony, the game began slowly climbing up the charts.
The once low hundred figures climbed into the 1,000s, with the game reaching a 24-hour peak of just over 2,200 players.

Of course, it helps that the game is on sale, though it's fair to presume that the Olympics had a lot to do with things as well. Indeed, the return of Arno prompted a separate gamer to try and recreate the Olympics' outfit in Unity. The results are pretty spot on and likely as close as we'll get to an official outfit release.
Check out the outfit in action:
And here's a checklist of how it can be recreated:
Either way, it's pretty neat how a viral moment led to the game becoming popular once again. Let's see if there's any video game representation when the Olympics head to the USA in 2028.
