God of War Show Brings Back Alastair Duncan to Play Mimir as Actors for Brok and Sindri Join the Cast

The floodgates for Sony and Amazon’s live-action God of War show are open, with the Prime Video series confirming the cast for three additional roles: Alastair Duncan will reprise his role as Mimir, Danny Woodburn will play Brok, and Jeff Gulka will play Sindri.

It’s a trio of updates for supporting characters from the Norse run of Santa Monica Studio’s God of War games as work on filling its cast continues. Each actor will join Ryan Hurst’s Kratos on his journey as some of his closest, wittiest, and wisest allies.

Alongside a variety of other video game roles, fans of both God of War (2018) and its 2022 sequel, God of War Ragnarok, will recognize Duncan as the actor behind the disembodied (but still very much alive) head known as Mimir. The silver-tongued so-called “Smartest Man in the World” travels with Kratos for the majority of both video game installments and is known for his comforting advice and hate for the Odin.

“He served as an advisor to Odin the All-Father, who ultimately banished Mimir to confinement in the trunk of a tree, forever cut off from the people he loves and anything that could nourish his mind,” a description for the live-action God of War show’s Mimir says. “In the wake of his banishment, Mimir seeks atonement for the terrible deeds he committed in the All-Father's name.”

Joining the troop are Woodburn and Gulka, who will join together to play legendary dwarven blacksmiths and tough brothers Brok and Sindri. Though the duo largely plays background roles in the games, popping up for the occasional quip while offering to support Kratos with upgrades for his weapons and armor, they’ve remained fan-favorites since first appearing in the series eight years ago. Woodburn is best known for his roles in Seinfeld, Watchmen, and The Witcher, while viewers may recognize Gulka for his parts in The X-Files, Once Upon a Time, and Laid.

The three casting additions will join not only Hurst, who also played Thor in Ragnarok, and his take on the former Spartan general but two more actors who were confirmed just yesterday: Mandy Patinkin as Odin and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor. Other members of the cast include Teresa Palmer as Sif and Max Parker as Heimdall.

Duncan’s return as Mimir gives fans two of the three god-like individuals players followed through most of the Norse God of War games. That leaves Kratos’ son, Atreus, still without casting confirmation, but at the pace Amazon and Sony are announcing actors, it shouldn’t be too long before we learn more.

The God of War show currently has no release date. In the meantime, be sure to check out our collection of all of the other upcoming video game movie and TV adaptations.
