Right now, Sasuke's Mangekyo Sharingan is his biggest power. However, in the future, Sasuke will need something even bigger to fight the foes that exist in the Boruto world. This is practically a guarantee. Fans know very well that Sasuke Uchiha won't be sidelined forever. At the same time, it is also quite clear that the level of enemies is only going to rise in Boruto. As such, Sasuke has to return stronger, and there's no other way around it.
This could only be achieved by Sasuke gaining the Rinnegan once again. Now, the author could go about it in two ways. Sasuke could, perhaps, gain his old Rinnegan first. This could be made possible if Eida uses Omnipotence and reverses what Momoshiki did to his eye. It is entirely possible after she gains full control over her powers. As fans know, the Shinju exist currently in Boruto, and all of them have access to the Rinnegan, thanks to the Ten Tails. Sasuke's Rinnegan could very well be derived from this Ten-Tails or its chakra. It would serve as the perfect way to bring him back to relevance so that fans could once again see him team up with Naruto Uzumaki and fight side by side with his student, Boruto Uzumaki.
